First 10 frames on the Instax Wide

A month or so ago I picked up an Instax Wide camera for a bit of fun after enjoying the results from Lauras Instax Mini. The Wide offers prints near enough twice the width of the Mini and since I mostly find myself shooting landscape, the wide seemed like a good fit for me. Finding one was easy enough, fortunately there aren’t too many models in the wide range and considering the first one was released in 1999, it made sense to look for the newest model I could find. I eventually picked up a Wide 300 which is around 6 years old and although perfectly functional honestly its pretty ugly in my opinion. It’s also a really big camera, I guess the printing mechanism for the larger film results in a much larger camera than the Mini. Despite the size it feels good in the hand and has a decent grip on it, which is excellent news as the plastic construction doesn’t inspire much confidence in the event of it being dropped..

The Margate loadout, the Instax definitely wins on chonkiest camera!

Good ol’ebay came through in the end as usual, £50 for a boxed camera and a pack of film included seemed like a pretty good deal. The pack of film was in fact dated 2018 and being new to this I hoped it wouldn’t have too much of a negative effect on the photos. Someone who’s shot this film before could probably tell me whether or not the photos below look different to how they should but I think the colours looks okay. Since we were off to Margate for a few days the following month I figured it would be a great to save the pack of film for the trip and take along the Instax for some practice.

Below are all 10 photos from the pack along with some notes on what I thought of each of them. I sold my Epson scanner a while ago which is a shame as it would’ve been great for scanning these but instead I’m afraid you’ll have to accept these photos of photos taken on our kitchen worktop.

Quite like this one but wish I had captured some separation between the left-most upright blocks.

Another one accidentally shot at the wrong focus range, a nice blurry memory of Botany Bay.

Got home and realised I hadn’t finished the pack so a nice one of Poppy mid feeding frenzy for frame no.10! I think it was Bolognese..

Really enjoyed shooting the Instax Wide and looking forward to using it more on future trips, just need to find a better way of scanning them..
